ABOUT KIRA...

Originally from South-East London, Kira was immersed in many styles of music from an early age. She was given a place at Blackheath Conservatoire to study violin at the age of 4 and began learning the recorder at the age of 6.
Moving to the Lake District in 2005, aged 8, Kira continued her violin and recorder studies and discovered a love of singing, joining the Amici Singers in Cartmel. A collaboration between the Amici Singers and Levens Choir on a production of 'Carmina Burana' led to Kira being awarded a singing scholarship by Levens Choir which enabled her to have funding for singing lessons.
At Kira's Primary School her musical ability was recognised and the oboe was suggested as an instrument to complement her recorder studies. At 10 years old she began playing violin with the Westmorland Youth Orchestra and then moved to the woodwind section to play oboe. Arriving early to orchestra rehearsals each week meant that Kira had the opportunity to learn the double bass and this skill has enabled her to play in school string ensembles.

Secondary school afforded more opportunities to perform in groups where she taught younger musicians and studied piano up to grade 5. Kira also had guitar lessons, both acoustic and electric, and performed electric guitar in a production of 'Little Shop of Horrors' and oboe in 'Beauty and the Beast' and 'The Wizard Of Oz'.
During her secondary education Kira attained her grade 8 recorder and grade 8 singing qualifications and displayed her versatility of both recorder and oboe by performing in baroque classical styles and more modern and jazz styles by contrast.
Shorty after starting studies in music and psychology at Bath Spa University, Kira achieved her ABRSM Diploma in recorder performance. Her passion for the recorder and oboe involves her in several groups such as Orchestras, Baroque Group and Wind Band. She recently had a masterclass with Piers Adams of baroque group Red Priest and has begun to explore recorder in medieval music. Singing also involves her in choirs and chamber groups and volunteering with Age UK to perform for elderly people.
After graduating from Bath Spa University with a 1st class degree in Music and Psychology, Kira is now studying for a Masters degree in Music Performance.
